One of the finest Persian carpets, this Qom (Qum, Gum, Ghom) is a magnificent example of weavers art. Circa 1900-20, the size is 8.0 x 11.3 and has very fine knotting. The field represents paradise with flowers, flowering vines in a garden scene, and many deer playing about. All the landscape features that were taught would be awaiting the faithful in Paradise. The light gold field with blue trim and ivory border is stunning, a real treat for the eyes. The knotting is very, very fine which allows for small, detailed designs. It is signed by master weaver Momtaz Khansarri who must have been renowned in his day.
This is an exceptional Persian carpet both in finest of the knotting, design, and use of colors; a beautiful surviving treasure from a distant past. My wholesale price is $950
