This is a very rich-looking antique oriental, known as a Shah Abbas design. Under Abbas’ reign in the 17th C, he became the patron of the arts and carpet weaving increased its role as an important part of Persian industry and culture, as wealthy Europeans started importing Persian rugs. Silk production became a monopoly of the crown, and manuscripts, bookbinding, and ceramics were also important exports. This beautiful oriental rug was hand-knotted in the city of Kashan, in Iran, in the 1930’s, (so it is about 85 years old), and it is in fantastic condition with only slight fringe wear. The pile is 100% Kork wool (made from the belly of lambs, which is a softer and thicker wool) and then dyed, using vegetable dyes for a deeper richer look. It is finely woven with over 200 knots per square inch (KPSI) which makes this an exceptional piece. The size is 12.8 x 8.6 and in excellent condition with no repairs, stains, and a pile that is still plush all over. This rug would be impressive in a living room, a family room or Great room, a dining room, a master bedroom, a large office or study, or any other larger sized room. And it will add a very impressive and beautiful look, enriching any home. $1770 with a retail of 7K K-140
