This rug was handmade in the 1930s in one of the Qashqai villages by nomad people around the mountains of Qashqai in southwest Iran. It is 5.2 x 8.2 with a medium pile constructed entirely of wool (warp, weft, pile) from their own sheep using handcrafted traditional vegetable dyes. Each Qashqai rug features woven designs created from memory usually to tell a story of their life making each rug a true reflection of craftsmanship and creativity. This whimsical rug features signature diamond shapes in cobalt against a red ground and is dotted with motifs, including birds, stars and geometric designs. It is a beautiful example of village weaving.
