A beautiful recreation of a 18th C. Persian Carpet using hand carded and hand spun wool hand dyed using natural dyes. Exactly the way all handmade antique carpets were once woven.
At one time I imported these natural dyed rugs from this workshop in Afghanistan. I first met the owner there in the 70s when he was experimenting making rugs using natural dyes like all rugs before the advent of synthetic dyes in 1900. I convinced him to use designs of antique Persian carpets and when he did these became very successful. He went full in and started also using hand carded and hand spun wool like all pre 1900 rugs and getting the wool from northern Afghanistan which, due to the cold climate, is the world’s best for rugs. Just about all his small production goes to Europe however I contacted my old friend and he sent me some photos of currently designs available. The beauty of natural dye rugs is undeniable.
A really beautiful example of the weavers art. The size is 7.11 x 9.9 and the cost is $2195.
Last year I found a workshop in Northern Afghanistan to recreate these carpets in the ancient way. I received my 1st shipment after 9 months’ time but with the situation there now I don’t know when or if I will get any more. This is the last one left. A-397
